Qrunch Foods Releases Gluten-Free Vegan Burger in Spicy Italian

By Evan Sandsmark -

We recently reviewed Qrunch Burgers, which are vegan and gluten-free burgers that you can find in several supermarkets around Boulder (and other places in Colorado and indeed the U.S.). Vegan burgers have kind of a bum rap, as does gluten-free food in general (although this is less true in Boulder), with many people thinking of them as unexciting and tasteless. This wasn’t our experience with Qrunch Burgers, and we don’t think it will be either when we try their newest offering – Spicy Italian Burgers – which will be available in Boulder later this month.

Also available later this month will be four packs of Qrunch Burgers, which will replace the two packs that anyone who eats Qrunch Burgers has become familiar with. Both types of burgers – the Spicy Italian and the Original – will be in four packs from now on. This strikes us as a good development, especially for those who cook for more than one person. Two burgers don’t get you very far.

In Boulder, the Spicy Italian Burger and four packs will first be available at the Whole Foods Markets around town. (In fact, they will be available in every Whole Food Market in the Rocky Mountain region, which includes Colorado, Utah, Kansas, and New Mexico.) The burgers will also be available at Natural Grocers (Vitamin Cottage) soon, including the one in Boulder, but Whole Foods will carry them first.

Finally, Qrunch is working on two additional burger flavors, which should be released in the fall if all goes according to plan. Unfortunately, Qrunch Burgers won’t tell us what these flavors are – they are “top secret,” in the words of one of the founding partners. As we mentioned in our original review, Qrunch Burgers also plans to release Qrunch Tots, but these are still in the planning stages, and the fall release of the two new burgers will precede the release of the tots.

We’ll try to get our hands on some Spicy Italian Qrunch Burgers when they come out and let you know how we like them. We’re always eager to try new vegan, gluten-free burgers. If you try them first, drop us a comment with your reactions!
